FAQ - Questions about maintenance, cleaning and protection

What about the risk of damage to the plant caused by external circumstances?

Theoretically there is a risk of external damage to the plant such as thunderstorms (hail, storm, lightning strike etc.), vandalism or even theft. Such risks can be guarded against through a special PV insurance policy which usually provides blanket-cover against all abovementioned causes of damage. This insurance often also covers yield loss due to material damage at no extra charge.

In other words: for the period of time required to repair or replace the part, the insurance pays a day rate which corresponds to the electricity yield of your plant (according to insurance €1.50 – €2.50 per kWp for a maximum of 3 months).

The very favourable conditions of a PV insurance policy are an additional indicator of the safety of solar plants, if considered in relation to their range of performance. Otherwise there would be more reports of damage and the insurance company would be unable to offer the currently low contribution rates. Although the fear of damage to such a high-value technical product as a Gecko plant is understandable, this fear is unfounded.
